Free workshop offered by Esri.  Attendees will:

• Learn about the capabilities of Insights for ArcGIS, including the latest 3.0 release.
• See demonstrations and scenarios of use.

National Geographic Educator Certification Fall Enrollment Now Open

By participating in the National Geographic Educator Certification Program, you will:

Through lectures by scholars of North and South Korean history and literature, participants in this Program for Teaching East Asia workshop will gain perspectives of everyday life in the two Koreas and consider Korea’s division and contemporary situations through multiple perspectives. Geospatial Technology in the Classroom Professional Development Workshops

DEADLINE for Fort Morgan Workshop extended to Monday, October 17th

Take a day to dive into learning about ways to bring geospatial technology into your classroom.  Whether you teach science, literature, math, or social studies, there are materials that can support your students in asking spatial questions and introducing them to essential online mapping tools.  This professional development workshop is intended for elementary and secondary educators, bother pre-service and in-service, who are interested in learning about how to set up free organizational accounts for ArcGIS Online; how to use mobile tools such as Survey 123, Collector, and Explorer; how to access GeoInquiries, self-contained online mapping exercises to enhance subjects including civics, math, environmental science, and human geography; and why and how to use geospatial technology in instruction.

Participants will receive access to Esri online accounts and materials, be introduced to the Esri school program, and become part of a network of teachers in the region who are interested in stretching their students’ understanding of mapping and technology.

Instruction will take place at History Colorado sites and affiliates across the state.  Funding for instruction and support is provided by Esri and History Colorado.  Three identical workshops will be held in different locations across Colorado.  The hands-on program will run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.  Breakfast and lunch will be provided.  Participants will need to bring their own computers.  Credit from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs will be available for attendees who wish to create their own GeoInquiry following the workshop.

The Next Steps for STEM Learning and Leadership Institute in Colorado Springs, October 10-12

SimScientists: Games Pilot 2 - Middle Grade (6th, 7th, 8th) Science Teachers Needed!

WestEd, a not-for-profit educational research agency, has funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to conduct a research project, SimScientists Games, during the Spring of the 2018-19 school year that aims to use a new genre of games as formative assessment resources designed to collect evidence of learning during gameplay and reinforce middle grades life science concepts and investigation practices for ecosystems. The games are intended to provide engaging activities for understanding and investigating the science system components, roles, interactions and population dynamics of all ecosystems. Teachers will be able to monitor students’ progress and results using secure web-based tools that accompany the games. Researchers hope the games will help students learn and provide timely information teachers can use to help students in more targeted ways. The NSF 2026 Idea Machine - Finding "Big Ideas 2.0": Identifying new directions for research.

The NSF 2026 Idea Machine is an opportunity for researchers, the public, and other interested stakeholders to contribute to NSF's mission to support basic research and enable new discoveries that drive the  U.S. economy, enhance national security, and advance knowledge to sustain the country's global leadership in science and engineering.

NSF has released a toolkit that includes material for distribution: a postcard, outreach slides (PDF version; PowerPoint version with notes), sample social media posts and email blasts, and posters for public, industry, and academic audiences. A competition handbook is coming soon!

The Research Associate's primary responsibility will be to collaborate with the MAST Institute Director to ensure that deliverables and timetables associated with grant related activities and internal and external projects are successfully met. The Research Associate will identify external funding opportunities related to elementary, secondary and post-secondary education in sciences and mathematics and actively engage in grant-writing and scholarship. Grant activity and the publication of scholarly works resulting from work within the MAST Institute is expected. Additionally, the Research Associate will serve as a point of collaboration within the MAST Institute for the development of new projects and will teach two courses/year in an area of expertise within biological sciences, physical sciences, mathematical sciences, or mathematics/science education. Good computer and oral and written communication skills are essential.

Become a Certified Environmental Educator in Colorado

Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education's certification program sets specific standards of knowledge, skills, and experience that highly qualified Environmental Educators in Colorado should be able to demonstrate. It is a competency based program - one where the applicant will demonstrate what they know and can do by building a portfolio.  The competencies for certification are based on the NAAEE Guidelines for Excellence in Environmental Education and Colorado Guidelines for Environmental Educators.  To register for an information webinar, visit the CAEE website.

If you work (or would like to work) at tour and cruise companies, parks, zoos, museums, nature centers, aquariums etc. helping visitors connect with our natural or cultural heritage this 32–hour course is for you! The National Association for Interpretation (NAI) offers a professional certification program to recognize individuals who exhibit knowledge and skills necessary to assure quality interpretive services to all audiences. The goal of the CIG program is to provide consistent, high quality training for staff and volunteers on the basics of presenting interpretive programs. Certification is a way to document that you possess skills and knowledge that allow you to perform effectively in the interpretive profession.
