CIRES/Outreach Professional Research Assistant Opportunity

CIRES/Outreach Professional Research Assistant: The Lens on Climate Change Program Manager
The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) has an opening for a part-time, 50% Professional Research Assistant for a newly awarded education project.
The Lens on Climate Change is a newly funded 3 year NSF project under the ITEST solicitation. The project engages Colorado middle and high school students in film production documenting the effects of climatic and environmental changes on their lives and in their communities. Mentored by graduate and undergraduates participants complete all steps of video production. Mentors come from the Colorado Film School at the Community College in Aurora, and from CU science graduate programs.
This newly funded NSF project builds on a pilot project.

The Lens on Climate Change project includes two different programs: a 6 months long School Year program targeting urban and suburban low-income, underrepresented students, and a 1-week long, intensive Summer program targeting rural, low- income, Native American and Hispanic students.
The project includes an educational research plan with two broad goals: i) a comparison of the effectiveness of the two different programs and ii) the characterization of how social networks of peers, parents mentors, and student demographic factors mediate and influence the impacts of the program.
